TRAFIC

Summary

TRAFIC ( Tayside Regional Alliance For Information Control) is a proposed collaborative project between Realtime Worlds (RTW) and universities in the Tayside region, plus Dundee City Council (Travel Dundee), to establish an advanced traffic monitoring network based initially on bus routes, and extending to taxis and other PSVs within the Tayside urban area. The monitored traffic environment will use existing and extended GPS transceivers on probe vehicles to monitor position, speed and other variables and transmit timetable and congestion data to the local authority, passengers and road users. This will enable long-term analysis of traffic flow, congestion and other problems, and facilitate deployment of police, ambulance and fire services.
The project will enable RTW to extend its real-time 3-D real world rendering technology to new markets involving traffic management and control, a market expansion which is projected to capture a significant fraction of both the on-line gaming and traffic management systems markets.
